WOOLLEN WORKERS’ WAGE CLAIMS

♦ COURT RESERVES DECISION (P.A.) WELLINGTON. February 18. Woollen workers asked the Arbitration Court to-day to amend their award to bring the rates of pay into line with those of workers in the clothing industry. Mr G. Delaney, for the workers, said a special ground for the application was the necessity for increased production in the industry, and for restoring the proper relationship to the rates of other workers. The woollen workers asked the Court to grant the increase of 3d an hour granted to the clothing industry, bearing in mind that the woollen workers had an hourly rate as against the weekly rate m the clothin2 trade. Mr M. R. O’Shea, for the employers, said the employers were agreeable to the increases granted to the clothing trade, provided they were for female workers only. The Court reserved its decision.
