In the compulsory section, Miss Reid gave a consistent display, and in some of her voluntary dives revealed brilliance. It was a very close contest, with the issue in doubt to the final dive. D. Begg won the first men s low springboard championship by a good margin from O. Jaine, Auckland. These two dived well, but others performed disI appointingly. The title-holder. Miss N. Shaw, did not gain a place in the women's I 229 yards breaststroke heat, and the final , was won by H. Forsyth, Otago, who. is still an intermediate swimmer. Her time of 3min 23 l-ssec was eight secbnd§ faster than the winning time last year. Points for the Yaldhurst Shield, at present held by\ Canterbury, were: Otago 29, Auckland 29, Canterbury 12, Nelson 8, Wanganui 3, Manawatu 3, Wellington 3. Taranaki 3, and Southland 1.
