PETROL COUPONS
EARLY APPLICATION BY MOTORISTS
The staff at the Wentworth and the offices of deputy-registrars where petrol coupons are being issued had a busy day yesterday. Many applicants were waiting outside the Wentworth when the doors opened yesterday morning, apd the staff had to be augmented at various times during the day to cope with the long queues. At 9.30 there were about 300 persons at the counters. Some applicants had not read the instructions which were given publicity in the newspapers during the last few days. Some quoted the number of the sticker on their cars instead of the plates, while others gave the wrong plate number. Departmental officers said owners were required to make personal application for their coupons, and it was only in exceptional circumstances and with written authority that anyone else could collect the coupons. The Wentworth will be the centre for distribution of coupons to motorists whose vehicles are registered at the Chief Post Office until February 27. For those who cannot get into town during the day the Wentworth will be open between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. except to-morrow and on Saturday. Although application forms for commercial users will be available at the Wentworth and deputy-regis-trars’ offices from next Monday, lhe Post Office has received no advice about the basic ration. Instructions will be issued-later this week.
