LAKE PUKAKI POWER SCHEME.—This 60ft high concrete structure at the Lake Pukaki hydroelectric power works houses the five recently-completed sluice gates. Last week the natural outlet from the lake was sealed by the building of a temporary dam, and the sluice gates were closed to build up water storage for generating power in the winter. Shown on top of the concrete tower are the winches which raise and lower the gates.
