STAFF NEEDS OF HOSPITALS
REQUEST FOR IMMIGRANT LABOUR Representations have been made to the Health Department and the Department of Labour and Employment by the North Canterbury Hospital Board in an endeavour to obtain additional staff for the board’s institutions from the draft of British immigrants which will arrive in New Zealand aboard the Atlantis on February 7. An official of the board said yesterda7 1. * the b °ard’s application had set out the staff needs under the headings of trained nurses, nurses in training ’9F._ nursing aids), and domestics. While no specific advice had been received in reply, the. board was hoping for favourable consideration when the JHiinigrants were allocated to jobs. lhere is still a considerable shortage of nurses in training at the Christchurch Public Hospital, nursing aids at country hospitals and the board’s smaller institutions such as the Jubilee Home, and trained staff at the Cashmere Sanatorium and country hospitals.
