The Primate of New Zealand (Archbishop West-Watson), will visit Auckland for the consecration of the Very Rev. S. G. Aulton as Bishop of Melanesia. Archbishop West-Watson is at present in Nelson, and will return to Christchurch from Auckland early in February. Bishop Lyons, and the priests of the diocese of Christchurch began their annual retreat at the presbytery of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament yesterday. The retreat, which will be held in two sections, will occupy two weeks. The Mayor of Christchurch (Mr E. H- Andrews) has returned from a holiday in the Marlborough Sounds. A well-known Fijian, Sir Maynard Hedstrom, arrived at Whenuapai on the clipper Kit Carson yesterday to undergo medical treatment for a muscular complaint. He was met by an ambulance. He was accompanied by Lady Hedstrom. The managing director of Morris Hedstrom, Ltd., of Fiji, Sir Maynard Hedstrom was born in Fiji and was educated in Australia. He was knighted in 1922. He was a member of the Fiji Legislative Council at the age of 36, and nine years later joined the Executive Council. He resigned in 1929.—(P.A.)' Sir Harold Luxton, advisory director in Melbourne of the Bank of New Zealand, and chairman of directors of the National Mutual Life Association of Australasia. Ltd., has arrived in Auckland by flying-boat from Sydney. He will spend about three weeks on holiday in New Zealand, and will leave for Wellington to-day. A former Lord Mayor of Melbourne. Sir Harold Luxton has b.een a member of the Melbourne City Council since 1919. He is chairman of the Metropolitan Gas Company, and Jas. McEwen and Company Proprietary. Ltd. During the First World War he served overseas in the Australian Field Artillery and the Royal Australian Air Force.—(P.A.) The Rev. Father T. C. Bergin, S.M., who is attached to the Catholic parish of St. Mary’s Wanganui, will become parish priest at Napier at the end of the month. Father Bergin has been in Wanganui for three years, and has been closely associated with youth work. He was formerly assistant priest at St. Mary’s, Manchester street, Christchurch, where he founded St. Christopher’s Club for boys and organised annual summer camps for the members and other youths.
