GOVERNMENT OFFICES

CHANGES IN PREMISES The first of several changes of office premises of Government departments in Christchurch was made yesterday when the Registrar of Births, Deaths, and Marriages (Mr A. A. Besley) and his staff moved to the first floor of 90 Hereford street. This office was previously in the first floor of the Hereford street Post Office. The premises vacated by the office of the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages are to be occupied in the near future by the regional telegraph engineer (Mr L. O. Tyrrell), and his staff, who are at present accommodated in the High street Post Office. In the next four to six weeks the Department of Labour and Employment, now at 193 Hereford street, will move to the Majestic Theatre building and will occupy the greater part of the first, second, and third floors. The Marine Department is to be quartered in the same building. Alterations to this building are at present being made.

The transferring of the Department of Labour and Employment will make more room for the'Health Department staff, which has been working under cramped conditions for some time. A section of the Health Department staff at present working in the New Zealand Express Company’s building, will move to 193 Hereford street.
