RAILWAY OFFICERS’ RETIREMENT

CHRISTCHURCH DISTRICT CHANGES

Two senior officers of the Railway Department in the Christchurch district will retire shortly after 40 years’ service. They are Mr S. R. Sexton, assistant district traffic manager, who will be succeeded by Mr R T. Brown, assistant stationmaster at Christchurch, and Mr H. P. Mclver, assistant traffic manager, who will retire on February 12. Mr Mclver’s successor has not yet been announced. Mr Sexton joined the department as a cadet, and served in various parts of the South Island. He was transferred from the post of transport officer at Invercargill to ( stationmaster at Christchurch in 1944, arid in 1945 became assistant traffic manager at Christchurch. He was appointed to his present position in August, 1946. Mr Mclver started his cadetship in Christchurch in February, 1908, and after holding various posts in the South Island, returned to Christchurch in 1938 as tram control operator. He was transport officer when he took over his present duties in August, 1946. Mr Brown, who joined the service in 1911, has served mainly in the Canterbury railway district. He was in charge of the booking office at Christchurch, and was appointed assistant stationmaster last year.
