CONDUCTOR ON SHORT VISIT TO BRITAIN

(P.A.) WELLINGTON. January 9. To encourage performers and secure instruments and music for the National Symphony Orchestra and the New Zealand Broadcasting Service, the conductor of the orchestra (Mr Andersen Tyrer) is making a brief visit to Britain at the request of the Government. The Minister in charge of Broadcasting (Mr F. Jones) said that Mr Tyrer would explore the field of musical performance generally with a view to engaging performers and artists to appear in association with tne National Orchestra, and in the programmes projected by the Broadcasting Service., He would also explore the market for concert grand pianos, to see if he could make purchases for the Broadcasting Service. He would also try to buy music for the orchestra. D is expected that Mr Tyrer will return to New Zealand at the end of January.
