RECONSTITUTION OF COUNCIL
ADVICE "ON SALE OF PEARS AND APPLES IN 1948

Although efforts to obtain a permanent fruit marketing organisation similar to the Dairy Industry Commission have not been successful, under an agreement between the Minister of Agriculture (Mr E. L. Cullen) and fruitgrowers, the Fruit Marketing Council is to be reconstituted to act as an advisory committee on the marketing of apples and pears for 1943 only. It will consist of five members nominated by the New Zealand Fruitgrowers’ Federation, and not x more than three nominated by the Minister. together v/ith technical officers as ex officio members.
The composition of the new council is to be Messrs A. M. W. Greig (advisory officer to the Minister), who will be chairman. Cruickshank (fruitgrower, Auckland). Ward (fruitgrower. Hawke’s Bay). L. B. Robinson (fruitgrower, Nelson), H. R. Sampson (fruitgrower. Canterbury), Hainsworth (fruitgrower. Otago). W. Benzies (technical marketing officer, Internal Marketing Division). W. K. Dallas (technical production officer. Department of Agriculture), E. J. Fawcett (Director-General of Agriculture), K. Longmore (Acting-Director of the Internal Marketing Division), and A. Osborne, manager of the New Zealand Fruitgrowers’ Federation. Mr D. Waller. of the Internal Marketing Division. will act as secretary. There will be a committee of the council consisting of Messrs Greig, Osborne, v l ngmore * and Henzies. to be available on call to discuss immediate problems.
The council is expected to meet once a month if necessary. Each local producer-member of the Fruit Marketing Council will be a member of his local federation’s advisory committee These will act as district committees of the council. Senior technical officers on production and marketing and the local branch manager of the federation are to be members of local advisory committees. Where it is desired, the district committee of the council may consist of the local director -of the federation, the local member of the council, and a number of local apple and pear growers, with the addition of technical officers ex officio.
