CHURCHES IN INDIA TO CLOSE

GOVERNMENT GRANTS STOPPED

NEW DELHI, December 26. Mr Gandhi, in a Christmas message, mentioned that many churches in India would have to close when grants from the Indian Government ceased, in March. A correspondent says that only about 300 churches get grants. Some will close because there will be no congregations-in the cantonments, but the number getting grants was only a small proportion of the total number of churches in India.
