REOPENING OF SCHOOLS
PRECAUTIONS AGAINST DELAY ,An appeal to parents to observe carefullyXhe instructions of the Health Department for the prevention of further cases of poliomyelitis was issued yesterday by Mr G. H. Mitchell, of Christchurch, Dominion president of the New Zealand Educational Institute. Otherwise, he said, there was a distinct possibility that schools would not be able to open as scheduled in February and there would be serious interference with the education of children. Through the institute, teachers had offered fullest co-operation with the Education Department in providing lessons by correspondence and radio, if the schools could not reopen as planned; but this would not compensate for the loss of time at the beginning of the year. In safeguarding the health of their children, parents would also 12 taking precautions against handicapping their education next year.
