LANQ POLICY IN N.Z.
RECOMMENDATIONS BY FARMERS , (P.A.) WELLINGTON. December 8. The special committee established' by the Dominion council of Federated Farmers, in a preliminary report on land policy, recommends closer settlement of land and production increases. It considers that the cost of realising the programme should be the responsibility of the people as a whole, did' in the case of land acquired by the State for subdivision, that* the difference between the just price to the vendor and the subsequent productive value to the settlers should be a charge upon the public funds. Other recommendations are that all State-assisted settlers should have the option of freehold: that there should be a review of native lands, with the object of bringing them into production without delay; that there should be generous financial aid to enable suitable men to establish themselves as settlers: and that unduly large holdings should be subdivided by voluntary sale and purchase. These conclusions are being circulated to provincial executives of the organisation. arid from their opinions the committee will prepare a complete survey; for the next Dominion conference of Federated Farmers.
