GOLDEN WEDDING

MR AND MRS A. J. HARCOURT A golden wedding of interest to many Christchurch residents was celebrated this week at the Mayfair Lounge, when Mr and Mrs A. J. Harcourt, of Kensington avenue, Shirley, were entertained at a small reception given by their daughter and son-in-law. Mr and Mrs Douglas Matson. The toast to the guest of honour was proposed by Mr William Congreve, with whose family Mr Harcourt has been friends since*- they travelled to New Zealand from Tasmania 56 years ago. Mr J. Tresize, another old friend and business associate of Mr Harcourt, responded. Among the guests present were the other three daughters—Mrs Ivan Keegan (Levin), Mrs Jack Bryant (Wellington), and Mrs Raymond Bell (Christchurch) —and also six guests who were at the wedding 50 years ago. During the first month of the advertising appeal for nurses by the Hospital Boards’ Association about 500 inquiries were received by the nursing headquarters.
