CITY MAYORS RE-ELECTED
VOTING IN OTHER CENTRES (P.A.) WELLINGTON, November 19. Mayoral elections resulted:— Dunedin.— Labour suffered a serious setback in the Dunedin elections. Mr D. C. Cameron (Citizens) was reelected Mayor with a majority of over 12.000 votes, polling 22,157 votes to 9973 by Mr E. F. Jones (Labour). The entire Citizens’ ticket was elected to the City Council, on which Labour previously held six seats. The defeated Labour candidates included three members of Parliament (Messrs P. G. Connolly, W. A. Hudson, and R. Walls) and Dr. D. G. McMillan, former Minister of Health. The election for city seats on the Otago Harbour Board resulted in a clean sweep for Citizens’ candidates, two sitting Labour members being displaced. Labour won only one of seven city seats on the Hospital Board, the successful candidate being Dr. McMillan, chairman of the board. Auckland.— J. A. C. Allum (Citiens). 25,169, re-elected; F. W. Schramm (Labour), 18,628; G. V. Mullenger (Indenendent). 905. Wellington.— W. Appleton (Citizens), 26,257, re-elected; N. R. Seddon (Labour), 21,636. Of 98,428 electors on the roll only 47,883 voted. Wanganui.— W. J. Rogers, M.L.C. (Labour, retiring Mayor), 6592; A. C. Seivewright (Citizens). 4845. Napier.— With 70 declaration votes to be counted, the result of the Mayoral election is: T. W. Hercock (Citizens) 3449, L. Poupard (Independent) 3417. Majority for Hercock, 32; informal 46. Hastings.— R. D. Brown (Citizens) 4024, H. Kay (Labour) 884, S. B. Plumley (Independent) 668, H. I. Simpson (Independent) 400. Majority for Brown 3140. Invercargill.— A. Wachner (re-elect-ed) 5514, W. M. C. Denham (Labour) 4517.
