MORE BODIES FOUND
FIREMEN ENTER BASEMENT Firemen entered the basement early this morning. Several more bodies were discovered but no attempt was made to move them. The basement was flooded, and at 2.30 o’clock this morning firemen were still playing water from several hoses on all parts of the building. They were helped by two searchlights—one in Colombo street, and the other in Cashel street—supplied by the Army and operated by soldiers from Burnham. A large mobile crane was also provided by the Army, and it had shifted debris from the ground floor to give the firemen a clear right-of-way. An Army mobile generator which supplied electricity to a number of leads was parked in Colombo street, and firemen were able to take lights with them when they entered the building. Police officers were still patrolling the streets, and four Salvation Army officers were kept busy supplying tea, biscuits, and cakes to the workers.
