LONDON HOME FOR PRINCESS
CLARENCE HOUSE CHOSEN LONDON, November 11. It is officially announced that Clarence House, the former residence of the Duke of Connaught, will be the London home of Princess Elizabeth and Lieutenant Mountbatten. The Court correspondent of Reuters understands that it will be at least a year before they occupy it, •as redecorations and alterations will be necessary. The building, which is at present occupied by the Central’ Chancery of the Orders of Knighthood, was built in 1825 for the Duke of Clarence, later King William IV. It is a four-storey, gracefully-proportioned building adjoining St. James’ Palace. Queen Victoria’s mother, then Duchess of JKetit, occupied it from 1840 to 1861. The last owner, the Duke of Connaught, lived there from 1901 until he died in 1942.
