REMOVAL OF LAUNCH MARISTELLA
TWO MEN SENTENCED (P.A.) WELLINGTON. October 30.
Two men who converted the launch Maristella from her moorings in Nelson harbour and subsequently struck very rough sailing in Tasman Bay until they beached the launch near Separation Point appeared before Mr Justice Blair in the Supreme Court for sentence today. They were Michael Wasne-Allen, aged 33, seaman and engineer, and Eric James Rowe, aged 28, labourer. They were jointly * charged with converting the Maristella and converting the dinghy in which they rowed out to her and with breaking into a counting house. Each was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment with hard labour on each charge, the sentences to be concurrent.
