TYPHOID FEVER CASES
NUMBER UNCHANGED AT KAIKOURA '
L 3 NOW FOUND TO BE POSITIVE
There have been no additional positive cases of typhoid fever in Kaikoura or the surrounding district since Friday. The total number of cases, positive or suspect, is 42, and the diagnosis has been confirmed in 13 of these cases. The Assistant Medical Officer of Health (Dr. D. Kennedy) said yesterday that further laboratory reports were awaited. "I suppose the number of positive eases will gradually rise as these reports are received, but we are now quite satisfied with the progress of the epidemic,” he added.
To discuss arrangements made for the emergency extension of the Kaikoura Hospital for the treatment of the typhoid cases, the chairman of the hospital committee of the North Canterbury Hospital Board (Sir Hugh Aeland), the medical superintendent (Dr. A. D. Nelson), and the lady superintendent (Miss G. Widdowson) went to Kaikoura yesterday. They are expected to return to-day. Dr. Kennedy will leave for Kaikoura this morning, and the District Medical Officer of Health (Dr. J, H. Blakelock) will return this evening.
