KARTIKEYA AND CITRIL GALLOP WELL “The Press" Special Service WELLINGTON, October 21. The Wellington Guineas candidates, Kartikeya and Marilyn, returned the best time over six furlongs in the trials at Trentham tc-day. Great Trek and Sweet Nymph, other classic contenders, pleased over five furlongs, and Citril and Brolga also impressed over this distance. The best half-mile was registered by the two-year-old. Musselman, and Blue Trout took the honours over three furlongs. Broiefield galloped freely when returning the best time over a mile.

The outside of the course proper was used for galloping and provided excellent going, the times recorded being faster than for several weeks.

Ridden by his trainer. B. H. Morris. Great Trek was too good for Ramicourt, beating him by three lengths at the end of five furlongs in Imin ssec, the last half-mile in 51 4-ssec, and the final three furlongs in 38 3-ssec. Great Trek is forward and it depends on the track conditions on Saturday whether he contests the Guineas.

Howe and Welcome Guest were not extended at any stage of seven furlongs run in Imin 36sec. the final half-mile requiring 55sec. Howe is likely to run in the Watkins Handicap on Saturday and will be ridden by G. R. Tattersall. Zorro and Banshee were together after running half a mile in 52sec.

The best figures over a mile were returned by Broiefield when he completed the distance in Imin 45 3-ssec. He ran the last half in 52sec, and the final three furlongs ih 38 3-ssec. It was an excellent effort and drew attention to Broiefield’s prospects in the principal handicap events on the later days.

Musselman Sprints Well The two-year-old, Musselman, beat Palm Bearer by three lengths at the end of half a mile run in 50 3-ssec, the best of the morning over this distance. Musselman is a stablemate of Magical and is engaged in the Karitane Handicap on Saturday.

Morotai galloped boldly over a mile in Imin 46 l-ssec, the last half taking 52 Ijrsec. She is a very fit hack which should run prominently on the final days of the meeting.

Under a hold. Blue Trout sprinted three furlongs in 36 2-ssec. It was a splendid effort and suggested an early return to form.

Brolga and Citril were on terms, two lengths ahead of Primitive and Seven Up. at the end of five furlongs in Imin 4 4-ssec. the last half-mile in 50 4-ssec, and the final three furlongs in 37 4-ssec. It was a good effort on the part of Brolga and Citril. Renowned and Distinction were together, a length ahead of Colorado Maid, at the end of six furlongs in Imin 19sec. the last half-mile taking 52 3-ssec, and the final three furlongs 39 2-ssec. Distinction, which won the Hawke’s Bav Guineas at his last start, is in excellent order for the Wellington Guineas. The best five furlongs of the morning went to the credit of Sweet Nymph. She ran the distance in Imin 4 2-ssec, coming home the last four in 51 2-ssec. and the final three in 38 3-ssec. Guineas Candidates

With the better of the weights Marilyn was slightly ahead of Kartikeya after running six furlongs in Imin 17 4-ssec, the final five in Imin 4 4-ssec, and the £ st J? lree 111 At his last attempt Kartikeya won the Dunedin Guineas and Will be strongly supported in the Wellington Guineas.

Red Hering finished three lengths ahead of Royal Reserve at the end of half a mile in 50 4-ssec, the last three furlongs in 38sec. Red Herring was under a good hold and could have done much better.

*u 3ro , l ? was not re Quired to do better than lasec to the furlohg over half a mile. tie was unlucky not to finish closer than thmd in the Rimutaka Hack Handicap on Saturday, and has prospects on the later days.

Working well. Altruist was a length ahead of Beechwood after running seven furlongs in Imin 37sec, the last halfmile taking a 6 4-ssec. Beechwood has improved with his race on the first day, but is a lazy worker. Indian Dawn completed half a mile in ossec. the ±ast three furlongs in 41 2-ssec. Bruce and Magnaform kept together over a mile to return Imin 50 l-ssec They ran the last four in 52 3-ssec, and the final three in 39sec. It was a good Wellington Guineas trial on the part of Magnaform. Bruce is in good order to contest the Harcourt Stakes on the final cay of the meeting.
