MURDER CASES

RELATION TO DEATH SENTENCE MOUNT VICTORIA MEMBER ASKS FOR RETURN (P.A.) WELLINGTON, October 8. Notice of his intention to move for a return dealing with murder cases was given by Mr J. R. Marshall (Opposition, Mount Victoria) in the House of Representatives to-day. He asked that the return show: First, the number of cases of murder. attempted murder, and suspected murder committed each year in New Zealand since September 17. 1941, the date of the abolition of the death sentence for murder. Second, the number of charges laid and number of convictions secured in such cases. Third, the corresponding figures for each of the six years before September 17, 141.
