PRESENTATION TO REST HOME

LIFE MEMBERS OF W.D.F.F. HONOURED

In honour of its first four life memoers, Mesdames J. D. Hall, Hi A. Nutt, Colin Mclntosh, and the late Mrs G. Henderson, the North Canterbury Provincial Executive of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers has § resented a chiming clock to the ivision’s rest home, Te Kiteroa.

The formal presentation was made yesterday at a meeting of the executive, ana the gift was accepted on behalf of the Te Kiteroa committee by Mrs I. L. M. Coop. Sprays were presented to the three life members, and to Mrs W. J. Trusttum, Mrs Henderson’s daughter. Many speakers paid tribute to the work done by the life members, who had all held presidential office, in laying the foundations of the Women’s Division in North Canterbury. The prestige which • the organisation now enjoyed had been built up by its early members, said the president of the executive (Mrs G. W. Fairw’eather). It was agreed that, in the event of the executive’s acquiring clubrooms, the clock should be removed to them.

A mobile repair unit which will service country homes has been set up through the efforts of the North Canterbury Provincial Executive of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. It will now be possible for division members in North Canterbury to have such work as painting, paperhanging, cement work or the mending of drains done at one time by one tradesman. Details of the service were announced yesterday at a meeting of the North. Canterbury Provincial Executive by the president (Mrs G. WJ Fairweather). The person operating the service had his own truck, caravan, and assistants, she said. It would be necessary for meals only to be supplied on the job. She emphasised that the scheme was not intended to provide cheap service. The award rates would have to be paid. The provincial executive had now done its share in the matter, Mrs Fairweather said, and the branches would have to organise the work which members wanted done in their own districts.
