OBITUARY
MR R. G. MACGIBBON
Mr Roy Mac Gibbon, district electrical engineer of the State Hydroelectric Department, ’ Christchurch, died at his home in Winchester street yesterday. Mr Mac Gibbon was aged 62 years. Born in Mataura, Southland, in 1885, Mr Mac Gibbon was educated at the Southland Boys’ High School, and later at Victoria University College, Wellington. From Victoria College he went to Glasgow University, where he studied electrical engineering, and took a B.Sc. degree in that subject. In. 1920 he joined the staff of what was then the electrical branch of the Public Works Department, as a junior officer, and stayed in the Government service until his death. As the chief executive officer in the South Island first of the hydro-electric branch of the Public Works Department and latterly of the separate Stat Hydro-electric Department, Mr Mac Gibbon had a very close connexion. with the development of the power generating and distributing system. His duties took him frequently to all parts of the South Island and he was well known and respected by members and officers of local bodies and supply authorities in the cities and the most remote country districts alike. He is survived by his wife, two sons, and two daughters. MR J. N. DU FEU
A Past Pro-Grand Master of the Masonic Grand Lodge of New Zealand, and a former member of the Christchurch City Council, Mr John Nicholas Du Feu died at Christchurch on Tuesday at the age of 81 years. Born in the Channel Islands, Mr Du Feu came to New Zealand at the age of nine, and spent the greater part of his life in Christchurch. He was educated in Christchurch schools, and was engaged for a time in the coach-building trade. He joined his
father in the bootmaking trade, and eventually started out in business on his own account. Mr Du Feu remained actively associated with his business, which was known as J. N. Du Feu and Company, until about 1924. He was a member of the Christchurch City Council from T 925 to 1926. Mr Du Feu was a well-known member of the St. Albans Bowling dub for more than 30 years. During that time he held all club offices, and had represented the club on the Christchurch Bowling Centre. He was also a member of the St. Albans Cricket Club in his early days, being a prominent wicket-keeper. He was captain of the club from 1894 to 1895. Mr Du Feu was initiated into Lodge Ccncord, Papanui. in 11*05, and became Master of that Lodge in 1911. From that date he held various offices until he became Provincial Grand Master in 1926, holding that office for six years. Tn 1r32l r 32 he became Deputy Grand Master for New Zealand, and later became Pro-Grand Master. Mr Du Feu is survived by one daughter. Mrs R. S. W. Owen, of Christchurch, and one sister, Mrs M. F. Ashman, of Wellington. MR J. H. DOLAMORE (P.A.) GORE, October 8. Mr John Howard Dolamore has died at Lowry Bay at the age of 78. Mr Dolamore was first associated with the • Mataura Ensign” in 1884, and had been part proprietor ever since. In earlier periods he acted as editormanager. He was first managing director of the Christchurch ‘Sun.” Last week gifts of £20,000 for the town of Gore were announced. His wife died some years ago.
