TIMARU-CHRISTCHURCH ROAD RACE

Sir, —I beg to ask the reason for the non-broadcast from time to time throughout Saturday afternoon of the progress of the Timaru to Christchurch road race. This race creates a good deal of interest among town and country people and I think it is a great pity that hardly anything was heard about the through the radio. I did notice, however, that about every five minutes I heard results of horse races from all over the country, the same results being broadcast so many times that the listener knew them better than the announcer himself. I would appreciate it very much if next week we could be informed occasionally about the position of the cyclists. "After all, does not this event attract cyclists from all over the Dominion, whose relatives would surely like to hear how their boys are doing.—Yours, etc., KEEN LISTENER. October 6, 1947. [Any progress reports received were broadcast, and .the final result was announced in tne news session, said Mr J. F. Skedden (station manager o* SYA) when this letter was referred to him. “Arrangements have been made to broadcast the start of the Christchurch-Waimate race and for progress reports along the route. The final results will be telephoned from Waimate to 3YA and will be broadcast when received.” he added.l
