The retirement of Lieutenant-Colonel E. L. C. Bown, 0.8. E-, was announced on Saturday by the Minister of Defence, Mr F. Jones. LieutenantColonel Sown joined the Ist N.Z.E.F. in Decetaber, 1914 and after serving oversea?, where he was wounded, he was commissioned in the New Zealand Staff Corps in 1919. On the outbreak of the last war, he became Chief Ordnance Officer at the Main Ordnance Depot, Trentham and was also commanding officer of the N.Z.A.O.C. As such he was responsible for equipping all the armed forces in New Zealand and the Pacific and Tor maintaining the clothing requirements of the 2nd N.ZJS.F. in the Middle East.— (PA.)
