SETTLEMENT IN INDONESIA
REPUBLICAN TERMS * DEFINED (Rec. 7 p.m.) BATAVIA, October 2. The Indonesian terms for settling the dispute with the Dutch were outlined by the Indonesian Prime Minister (Mr Sjarifuddin) in a statemertt on the Republic’s foreign policy, says the Jogjakarta radio. He said that a jettlement was Only possible if: (1) the Dutch withdrew their troops from Indonesia; (2) the Dutch recognised the de jure and de facto authority of the Republic; and (3) a third Power supervised the agree .lent between the two parties. Expressing confidence in the forthcoming talks with the Dutch through the good offices of the three-nation committee, the Prime Minister said: “Our position at present is strong because of moral support from the international world. We are still awaiting recognition by several countries which have shown sympathy with our struggle.”
The Dutch authorities have officially announced that the Dutch-occupied territory on the east coast of Sumatra will become the semi-autOnomous territory of Daerah Istimewa in accord with petitions and demonstrations by the vast majority of the inhabitants of the area.
