ACCIDENTS
CAR COLLIDES WITH TRAM DRIVER INJURED When the car he was driving collided with a tram on Papanui road at 7.5 o’clock last evening, Malcolm Albert McDonald, of 20 Plynlimon road, crushed both his arms severely. Mr McDonald was driving towards the city, and the car struck the tram as it swung out on to the loop at Weston road. The car, a sedan model, travelled about 50 yards before mounting the footpath on the left of the road. It was stopped by a fence. One of the St. John Ambulance officers who was called to the accident said later in the evening that the car had to be freed from the fence before the doors on the left side could be opened. Both the doors on the other side of the car, which was badly damaged, were jammed. Mr McDonald was operated on soon after his arrival at the Christchurch Public Hospital at 7.25 p.m. His condition later in the evening was reported to be satisfactory.
SCHOOLBOY INJURED
Graham Cooper, aged 14, who lives at the boys’ hostel of the Christchurch Technical College, was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital yesterday afternoon with head injuries. He was knocked over by a truck on 4he corner of Barbadoes street and Moorhouse avenue. His condition last evening was satisfactory.
MAN’S BODY FOUND
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 30. The decomposed body of Sydney Hammill, aged 51, who was missing from his home in Rex street, Miramar, from September 3, was found among trees densely overgrown part of the Botanic _ Gardens this evening. The police said there was no evidence of foul play as far as could be determined by a preliminary examination.
