COST OF BUILDING

OVERSEAS BELIEF THAT PEAK REACHED

(P.A.) AUCKLAND. September 29. The opinion of delegates attending both the British and United States building societies’ conferences was that the cost of building had reached its peak, said Mr W. Arcus, of Wellington, who returned to New Zealand on the Pan American Clipper to-day. Mr Arcus, who represented New Zealand societies at both meetings, said it was felt at both conferences within about five years prices for buildings would be about 85 per cent, of the present figure. The most serious problem discussed at the United Kingdom conference was the housing shortage which was as acute in England as it was in New Zealand, mainly because of war damage.
