Maori Concert in October. — For the first time since 1944, a Maori concert will be given in Christchurch during the first week of October. The *’oncert will be in aid of a candidate for the Miss New Zealand contest. Miss Gean Barnes, the Maori Association of Ngati-Otautahi having agreed to forgo a concert for its own funds The leader of the Maori concert party is Mrs Norman Bell (Tuahiwi). and the attendance of the performers at rehearsals during the last week has been excellent. Included in the programme are action songs, poi dances and hakas. and tableaux representing various stages in the history and development of the Maori race since the arrival of Europeans in New Zealand will be staged.
