INQUEST AT PARINGA

BODY OF MAN FOUND IN WESTLAND BUSH

The body of the man found dead in the bush below the Moeraki river in South Westland was taken from

Paringa to Wataroa on Wednesday evening, after an inquest had been opened at Paringa before Mr G. R. Northcroft (District Coroner). Evidence was given at the inquest by Joseph Driscoll, a deerstalker, who found the body. The proceedings were adjourned sine die until further inquiries have been made by the police. A post-mortem examination of the body was to be made at Wataroa yesterday afternoon.

A ration book, bearing the name, “W. A. Phillips,” was practically the only mark of identification available, and the police inquiries have extended in the North Island’ as far as Napier and Wanganui.
