ANIMALS’ PROTECTION SOCIETY
NO-CONFIDENCE MOTION DISALLOWED Police were present at a meeting of the Animals’ Protection Society last evening and had to silence several interjectors. The meeting was a special one called by the requisition of 16 members of the society “to discuss the conduct, constitution, and membership of the society, to make better arrangements for the carrying out of ifis objects, and to submit a motion or noconfidence in the control and management of. the society by the present members of the general committee.”
The president (Mr R. D. Martin) suggested that the requisition be withdrawn and the discussion be postponed until the annual general meeting n October 16, pointing out that even if the no-confidence vote were carried, the present committee would remain in power, under the society’s rules, until the general meeting. This course was rejected by those who asked for the special meeting. The motion of no-confidence was eventually moved and seconded; but the president refused to put it to the meeting, ruling that it was out of order.
A number of members then walked out of the room.
