MISS NEW ZEALAND CONTEST
Members of trade union organisations in the railway workshops, Addington, gathered in one of the large assembly sheds at the shops during a lunch interval to meet Miss Olga Purves, the candidate in the Miss New Zealand contest whom they are supporting. The manager of the Addington workshops (Mr J. King) addressed the meeting of more than 300 men and explained the purpose of the contest, and introduced Miss Purves. The gathering was entertained by selections played by the workshops burlesque band, and Mr Happi Hill led community singing during the half-hour meeting. The function took the form of an informal concert, and Miss Purves addressed the men and thanked them for their support The Canterbury branch of the A.S.R.S. yesterday decided to give assistance to the Addington branches of the A.S.R.S. and the Railway Tradesmen’s Association in their support of the candidature of Miss Olga Purves for the Miss New Zealand contest in the “Aid to Britain” campaign.
