DEMAND FOR U.S. WAR WEAPONS

ACTIVITIES BY FOREIGN AGENTS NEW YORK, September 12. Foreign Government agents, acting in strict secrecy, are negotiating for the purchase of war weapons in the United States. This was disclosed in Boston to-day by Mr Melvin Johnson. of Johnson Automatics Incorporated, one of America’s biggest manufacturers of automatic weapons. “For the last two years our technicians have continued to develop and improve weapons, anticipating the inevitable,” he said. “The situation which to-day confronts the world will result in military orders for light machine-guns and semi-automatic rifles amounting to many millions of dollars before the end of 1P47.” Mr Johnson has had secret conferences with agents of European, Middle East, Near East, and Far East countries. He had sent specially-trained representatives overseas, he said, and would leave soon for South America himself for a “top secret” conference.
