FLYING-BOATS BOUGHT

TASMAN EMPIRE AIRWAYS FOUR NEW AIRCRAFT FOR SERVICE From Our Own Reporter WELLINGTON, September 5. A contract for the purchase of four Short Solent flying-boats from Britain was completed this week by Tasman Empire Airways. It was learned by “The Press” in Wellington to-day that the contract is worth about £1,000,000. The delivery date of the flying-boats is still uncertain, but the first of the aircraft is expected to arrive in New Zealand about the end of next year. The aircraft will be capable of carrying 40 passengers on each trip, with no need for off-loading because of head winds. Each aircraft will have 9000 horsepower available for the take-nff.
