OTAGO BEATEN 20-8
POVERTY BAY-EAST COAST FORWARDS ON TOP <P.A.) GISBORNE, August 27. A combined Poverty Bay and East Coast Rugby football team beat the Otago touring team by 20 points to 8 in a fast and spectacular match at Gisborne to-day? The fit home pack overwhelmed the visiting forwards in the loose and, although Otago secured plenty of the ball from the scrums, the fast backs were seldom allowed to get into actiori. At half-time the home team led by 3-0. but in the second spell attacks by both forwards and backs tore holes in the Otago defence, and, in the latter stages, the Combined team was completely on top. For the Combined team. King, McKinley. Barbour (2), Lee. and Birrell scored tries. Clay converted one. For Otago, Woodhouse and Lynch scored tries. Orr converting one.
