YESTERDAY IN THE HOUSE
(From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON. August 27. Three speeches in the Budget derate. by Messrs C. M. Bowden (Opposition. Karori), T. H McCombs (Government, Lyttelton), and W Sullivan • Opposition, Bay of Plenty) were the sole business of the House of Representatives this evening In the afternoon the House heard a long statement bv the Minister of Finance (Mr W. Nash) on intended changes in the constitution of Western Samoa, and then went on to discuss Ministers’ written replies to questions. The Land and Income Tax (Annual) Bill was introduced and read a first time to-day. Subject to the adjustments uf taxation on unearned income of taxpayers in the lower income group, which was announced in the Budget, 'he bill reimposes existing rates of land tax and income tax.
