STOCK EXCHANGES INDUSTRIALS AND CHAIN STORES FAVOURED There was a good inquiry for most classes of stocks on the Christchurch Stock Exchange yesterday, and prices generally were firm at late rates. The bulk of the recorded turnover was in industrials and chain stores, and in these there were no gains. Substantial fails were recorded by New Zealand Diugs and Broken Hill South. OTHER EXCHANGES SYDNEY The contraction in business on the Stock Exchange yesterday reflected hesitancy on the part of investors, pending the clarification of the Commonwealth Government plans to assist Britain In the economic crisis. Leading industrial shares were steady, but some weaknesses developed. Bank shares tended to slacken. An undisclosed number of Union Bank and E., S., and A. shares were taken, off London delivery, at £ll 3s and £6 17s 6d respectively.
