N.Z. BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

RECORD ENTRY AT NELSON "The Press” Special Service

AUCKLAND, August 26. The eighteenth New Zealand basketball championships, which will open at Nelson’to-morrow, have drawn a record entry of 29 teams, with 358 players. There are eight teams in the first grade. 11 in second, and 10 in the third. Auckland and Manawatu are joint holders of the first grajie title. Matamata is the holder of the second grade, and Tauranga won the third grade last year. Tauranga is playing in the second grade this year. The annual meeting of the association opened this afternoon, with Mrs H. D. Muir, Dominion president, in the chair. It was decided that the next annual tournament should be held in Taranaki.
