PRICE OF PINEAPPLES

Sir, —Fruit purchasers in Christchurch have got an awful shock when ’hey have gone to purchase pineapples during the last week. The report from the Roma street market, Brisbane, on August 8 stated that pines were from 6s to 12s a dozen, small 3s to 5s a dozen. Some were 10s to 12s a case of 14 bushels. About the same date a grower at Redlands, near Brisbane, writing to a friend in Hawke’s Bay, stated that he was doing very well as he was getting 5s 6d a dozen for his pines. The retail price in Christchurch is 90s a dozen. It is time the Housewives’ Union got busy.— fours, etc., _ OBSERVER. August 25, 1947.
