DENNISTON MINE IDLE YESTERDAY
4 (P.A.) WESTPORT, August 26. Work at the Westport Coal Company’s Denniston mine stopped this morning after a stop-work meeting had been held to consider claims of outside workers, such as carpenters, for a bonus similar to that paid to truckers, hewers and rope road workers. Another meeting was held this afternoon. If a settlement is not reached the dispute may also involve power house attendants, in which case it could become serious, as Denniston supplies electric power for the Millerton mine and a great portion of the Westport load. This evening the coal company’s officials, although not knowing the outcome of an afternoon meeting, were of the opinion that work would be resumed to-morrow.
