< OFFICIAL FORECASTS “The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON, August 25. Hie weather forecast for Canterbury issued at 9 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 20 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Situation: a deep depression is moving on to the North Island from the Tasman Sea. Forecast: moderate, variable winds, southerlies gradually prevailing and later freshening on the coast. Weather cloudy, with scattered rain developing, chiefly in the north. Temperatures cooler. Further outlook: rather unsettled. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Moderate to fresh north-easterly to easterly winds. Weather overcast, with occasional rain, heavier in north Westland. Temperatures moderate. Further outlook: improving in the south. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather in Christchurch yesterday - was fine and mild, with a light northeasterly breeze. At 1 o’clock this morning the sky was overcast and there was a moderate easterly wind. The barometer at 29.65 inches (1004.6 millibars) was falling .
