SCOTTISH “FIERY CROSS” IN CHRISTCHURCH.-—A photograph taken on Saturday, when Canterbury Scots gathered to receive the symbolic “Fiery Cross” from Edinburgh. The cross was flown to New Zealand to advertise the “Scottish Enterprise. 1947,” industrial exhibition, which will open in Edinburgh to-day. Mr W. T. Lindsay (chieftain of the Christchurch Scottish Society) is seen handing the cross to Mr J. Gowans (secretary of the Ashburton Scottish Society). Mr H. McConochie (chieftain of the Ashburton Society) is standing behind Mr Lindsay. Also in the picture are Mr L. W. Stewart (acting-headmaster of St. Andrew’s College), third from right, Mr J. Mathison, M.P., who brought the cross from Wellington, and Mr J. B. Kennedy (senior chieftain of the Christchurch Society).
