BULGARIA AND GREECE
BORDER INCIDENTS REPORTED
ALLEGATIONS BY BOTH GOVERNMENTS
(Rec. 10 p.m.) SOFIA, August 23. The Bulgarian Government has alleged that a group of armed Greeks fired on a Bulgarian border guard in the Svilengrad area, that a Greek ma-chine-gun in the same area fired on a Bulgarian aircraft, and that Greek soldiers and armoured cars on Thursday took up positions at one point on the frontier.
The Bulgarian Government said it had informed the Allied Control Commission and the United Nations Security Council of the alleged incidents. The Associated Press correspondent in Athens says that Greek press reports say that a group of guerrillas from Bulgaria attacked the villages of Neomfrion and Daphne. 12 miles south of the border, burned 40 houses, abducted 13 people, and then withdrew into Bulgaria. The Greek Ministry of Public Order announced that the Greek Army and gendarmerie killed 18 guerrillas in an engagement near Serres.
Stephanos Kalabalikis, who is alleged tc have operated in the Volos area as a right-wing guerrilla leader until five months ago, has been arrested in Athens. Kalabalikis has been sentenced to death 12 times in absentia.
