EXPENDITURE ON RAILWAYS
£2,000.000 FOR NEW WAGGONS (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, August 21. The £2.000.000 required -or 3000 railway waggons fron\ the United Kingdom was the major item in the mcreascd vote for improvements and additions to open lines, said the Minister of Finance (Mr W. Nash) in the House of Representatives this evening, when, during his Budget address, he referred to expenditure on railways. ."! ne du ,Pj icat i° n . grade easements, station buildings, and other items went to make up the balance of the total of £4.000.000 anticipated capital expenditure on the existing railway sy;said. There would be £1.000.000 charged to the depreciation fund, and the balance would be financed out of new loan capital raised through the National Development Loans Account.
