H Dobie early in 1944, has had long service with the Union Steam Ship Compa "y. He was born in Adelaide, South Australia, and started in the company’s office at Devonport, Tasmania. His service includes six years at Suva, and w r i? dS x in the offices in Melbourne, Wellington, Oamaru, Dunedin and New Plymouth

During the eight years he spent as branch manager in Invercargill before coming to Christchurch, Mr Hodge took a leading part in patriotic and ac tivities. He was chairman of the Invercargill Metropolitan Patriotic Committee in the war years, and was president of the Invercargill’ Returned Services’ Association, having served in the Fiji Defence Forces, and in France with the Canterbury Regiment during the First World War. In Christchurch Mr Hodge was a member of the executive of the Returned Services’ Association for two years, and represented the association on the Canterbury Provincial Patriotic Committee. He is a vice-president of the South Island Travel Association, the Christchurch Travel Club, and the Tin Hat Club of the R.S.A. He is a member of the finance committee of St. Saviour’s Guild, and of the executive of the Canterbury branch of the Navy League, the Over Seas League, the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, and the Canterbury Employers’ Association. •
