OUTER MONGOLLA AND UNO

RIGHT OF MEMBERSHIP DEBATED (Rec. 9.45 p.m.) NEW YORK, July 28. At a meeting to-day of the membership committee of the United Nations Security Council Mr Shuhsi Hsu (China) said that although China had supported Outer Mongolia’s application for membership last year she could not now support it because Outer Mongolia had shared in the armed invasion of Sinkiang Province two months ago. Mr Alexei Krasilnikov (Russia) said that the Chinese reports of the invasion had been distorted. He declared that “Outer Mongolian troops had merely driven a Chinese regiment back into China after it had penetrated Mongolian territory.” Mr Hayden Raynor (United States) said that there was no evidence that Outer Mongolia was an independent State. Outer Mongolia had diplomatic relations only with Russia and practically no external commerce or international relations. The committee postponed action until July 30.
