NEW PENSIONERS’ SETTLEMENT.
TWO MONTHS BEFORE OPERATION MORE THAN 150 WANT HOUSING No accommodation is likely to be available at . the pensioners' settlement at Burnham Military Camp for at least iwo months. This was announced yesterday by the City Council's public relations officer (Mr T. H. Langford), who said he had discussed the progress of the settlement with the Minister of Health (Miss M. B. Howard) on Monday. Mr Laiigford added that Miss Howard had told him that the Public Works Department was now examining the plans for the settlement prepared by the city architect (Mr T. Nelson) and the work would be pushed on as fast as possible. He had hoped to get some of the single men to go out to Bumham before the main body, but it would be better for all the pensioners to move in together. More than 150 persons have applied for accommodation at the settlement, which will be controlled by the Health Department Mr Langford said yesterday that he had received several applications which had been sent to Miss Howard in Wellington from the South Island.
