High prices were paid by buyers at a ssle of antique furniture in Hastings on Thursday. The bidding became so animated that dealers who had come from Auckland. Wellington, and Christchurch were unable to enter the market. One authority on antiques said after the sale thet he had never seen keener inquiry. Practically the whole offering will remain in the Hastings district. The top price was £425 for a baby table grand piano of German make. A Regency dining table brought £lB9. and a set of six Chippendale chairs £lO5. Other good prices were a 71-year-old oak desk. £52 10s; three mahogany chests of drawers. £35, £46. and £52; Hepplewhite chairs. £l6 and £9; and gateleg tables, £32 10s and £5O. «
