STOCK EXCHANGES OVERSEAS STOCKS LOSE GROUND The easier tone evident in the Australian market was reflected on the Christchurch Stock Exchange yesterday, when several overseas market leaders lost ground. The demand continued for New Zealand Government inscribed stock and sales made showed a firmer tendency. A reported sale of the 2J per cent, issue maturing 15/6/47-49 was made at £99 2s 6d, a rise of 2s 6d, while the 3 per cent, issue, maturing 1/8/51-54? was 5s higher on reported business at £lOl 10s. A reported sale of 3 per cent, issue maturing 15/2/55-58 at £lOl was 5s lower, but more were asked for at this figure. Liberty Bonds showed no change at 22s sd, and the same applied to Wool Bonds maturing 1/2/48 and 1/2/49, which had business at 22s 4d and 21s 8d respectively. Commercial Banking Co. of Sydney shares had further business at the unchanged rate of £25, but Ballins Breweries shares lost ground on a reported sale at 355. N*.Z. Breweries shares were easier, with l a seler at 58s 3d, after a reported sale at 58s 6d. S\Ban Breweries shares had their first local business this year, when a sale wqs reported at 42s 6d. Standard Insurance shares had business at 98s, and were 3s 9d higher at this price. British Tobacco shares fell 9d on a sale of 150 shares at 52s 6d and 440 Electrolytic Zinc ordinary shares which sold at 67s 6d showed no change. A reported sale of Morris Hedstrom shares at 54s was the first since February 26 and was IS 6d lower. Macduffs preference shares were unchanged at 29s 3d. Turnbull and Jones’, shares had reported business at 27s 6d, and Wilson’s Cement shares were unchanged on the sale of 200 at 18s 9d. In the unlisted section, Australian Investment Trust shares reached the sales list for the first time this year on the reported sale of 100 at 17s 6d.
