PRESENT FOR PRINCESS ELIZABETH

A jardiniere cast in bronze will be presented to Princess Elizabeth by the combined branches of the Royal Empire Society in New Zealand to mark her twenty-first birthday. The jardiniere will be about 15in in height, octagonal in shape. A large central panel in the front will be adorned by the initial “E” surmounted by a crown, the initial being surrounded by a design of New Zealand ferns and flowers. Six smaller panels will be carried out in a design of native flora. A large panel at the back will depict a kaka and a male and female fantail. The lid of the jardiniere will be surmounted by a kiwi, and relief to the unbroken bronze work will be given by the insertion of two narrow bands of paua shell.
